There is Wheel Chair Accessibility at Wild Rivers Recreation Area Visitor's Center
Ages Festival is Appropriate For
On Saturday, September 10, 2011, join in the third annual NeoRio, a celebration of art, nature, culture and community. Artists, locals and visitors are invited to the Wild Rivers Recreation Area, to experience and celebrate the place through arts and community events.
Hosted by the BLM Taos Field Office, NeoRio is organized by LEAP (Land, Experience and Art of Place), in collaboration with the New Mexico Wilderness Alliance, John Wenger of Wild Earth Studio, the Village of Questa and others. In its first year, 2009, NeoRio featured water artist, Basia Irland and her icebook launch on the rio, a sunset potluck dinner, campfire and live music on the rim of the gorge. In 2010, NeoRio featured sculptor for wildlife, Lynne Hull, who presented at a local school, offered workshops to artists, students and Rocky Mountain Youth Corps workers and facilitated the creation of three brush-pile sculptures designed to create wildlife habitat. This year promises to be equally wonderful!
NeoRio was designed as a platform for innovative ecological artists to encourage cross-pollination between artists, conservationists, scientists and others interested in protecting and celebrating our local communities and wild lands. The ancient relationship between humans, our fellow creatures and our environment is a complex story of interdependence. NeoRio attempts to explore this story through innovative artworks and events. It asks: what is the role of art in experiencing and protecting wild lands and what is the role of wild lands in art?
