Glen Canyon National Recreation Area - Lake Powell

National Park or Monument
Kayaking on Lake Powell – Aramark Parks & Destinations

ADA Accessibility Notes

Areas of the Aramark visitor facilities at the lake are ADA accessible.

Glen Canyon NRA was established in 1972 to "...provide for public outdoor recreation use and enjoyment of Lake Powell and lands adjacent there to...and to preserve the scenic, scientific, and historic features contributing to the public enjoyment of the area." The Recreation Area comprises 1.25 million acres and lies within Arizona and Utah with the largest portion in Utah. Two marinas, Halls Crossing and Hite, serve the eastern side of Lake Powell in San Juan County. The John Atlantic Burr Ferry, berthed at Halls Crossing Marina, is popular with visitors and crosses Lake Powell several times daily April through October to connect Utah Highway 261 on either side of the lake. The ferry will accommodate motor homes and large vehicles. Camping and boating are available at both marinas.

Pet Friendly Notes

National Recreation Area regulations apply to pets. Pets are permited at the lake in the in the Recreation Area but visitors are asked to clean up after them in order to insure a positive experience for those following them. Pets are not regulated but 100+ degrees Farenheit in summer months and below freezing temperatures in the winter plus precipitous cliffs preclude safely allowing pets to run free. Additional concerns are created when pets are included on water craft. Care is recommended if traveling with pets.

Pets are to be leashed in the Aramark visitor facilities.

Recreational Opportunities

Hiking, camping, boating, waterskiing, fishing, and all water sports.

Seasons Accessible

Year round. Fall is really the most pleasant time to visit the lake with slightly lower air temperatures and lake temperatures quite nice after soaking up the summer sun.
