Agathla Peak

Geologic Feature
Agathla Peak – Mary Rodin

Agathla Peak, a 1,400 foot volvanic plug, is said to be a sky supporter. It became known as the "place of wool and hair" because animal hides were traditionally scraped against the rock. It was later nicknamed "El Capitan" because of the way the rock formation commands the entrance to the Valley. This peak can be viewed from the Kayenta - Monument Valley Scenic Road, on US 163, north of Kayenta, AZ
