This snug vacation rental is located adjacent to Canyons of the Ancients National Monument near Sand Canyon trailhead, with stunning views of mountains, vineyards and red rock canyons.  Just hike, bike or ride your horse through our back gate to the trails in the 165,000 acre Monument.  Trails remain open and passable even during winter, and cactus and other wildflowers are spectacular in the spring.  Explore SE Utah canyons, San Juan Mountains, and local rivers from the Bunker as your base.

850 SF, with bedroom (twin beds or king), living room, dining area, bathroom, full kitchen and laundry.  Opens to flagstone patio on south side with views of Sleeping Ute Mountain, Battle Rock, Mesa Verde National Park, and Sutcliffe Vineyards.  Vacation rental - no meals provided.

Recreational Opportunities

Hiking, biking, horseback riding, photography in Canyons of the Ancients National Monument, through our back gate.  Hovenweep National Monument is 25 miles west, Mesa Verde National Park is 40 miles east, Bluff Utah (1 hr), Moab, Utah (2 hours), Durango (60 miles).  Hot summer days + cool nights, comfortable in winter, spectacular in spring and fall, almost always hikeable and rideable.

 

We are happy to help you design itineraries for your stay, and our location lies close to the wonderland of the Four Corners.  Many of the best-kept secrets of this incredible region are just around the corner from the Bunker.

Driving Directions

SW of Cortez, Colorado 13 miles down County Road G.  Head south out of town on Highways 160 West/491 South, turn at traffic signal to airport.  Pass airport, west down Road G toward Hovenweep National Monument and Bluff, Utah.  The Bunker is the 5th driveway west of Sand Canyon Trailhead, on the right [north] side.  Mailbox has Thomas, Toms, 12249 Road G.
