Saint Michael Indian School was founded in 1902 by Mother Katherine Drexel of the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament.
The school is accredited by the North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement. It is a member of the National Catholic Education Association and the Diocese of Gallup Catholic School System.
The faculty at SMIS is recruited from across the United States and from the Navajo Nation. This gives the school a rich diversity of talent and expertise to share with the students. Seventy-five percent of the faculty members hold a Masters Degree.
