Mentmore Rock Climbing Area

A local climber/biker discovered this area in 1997 and since that fateful day, many of the lcoal climbing community have chipped in to make this local crag a great place to come and pull down.  Working with the Esperza family owners of this land, climbers and citizens alike united to dismantled an illegal dump and create a place to recreate.  In 2004, State Representative Patricia Lundstrom and former Mayor Bob Rosebrough teamed up to purchase this land, fence in and develop a parking lot, install a kiosk, and install a wet crossing through the wash.  Adventure Gallup & Beyond works to preserve this venue although maintainence is everyone's job.  All routes have easily accessible top rope anchors and plenty of rap stations for easy anchor set up and cleanup.  Most top ropes require short (under 4') slings.

Mentomore is a small group of sandstone outcroppings with fragile holds.  The climbingin here is fairly unique, some routes have pockets, slopers, edges, and friction routes.  Help preserve the routes and holds with finesse and body position rathr than brute pulling.

Mentmore Rock Climbing Area area features more than 50 bolted top rope climbs and 31 sport climbs ranging in height from 25 to 45 feet with difficultly levels of 5.0 through 5.13.
